Gabriel Balderas is a senior at New Mexico State University where he is pursuing a degree in Digital Filmmaking. Gabriel Balderas coming from immigrant parents is no stranger to hardship and hard work. From seeing the suffering his parents endured to his own Gabriel has the unique skill of relating to others through empathy and being able to interpret those emotions into art. Gabriel is interested in telling stories about the human condition and using his vulnerability as a way to show his investment in his own art. Because of his empathy, Gabriel's main interest is to make films about hard but real topics that most people are too afraid to touch. A good example of this is his most recent film, Lucky. The story is about a young boy trapped in a bathroom stall during a school shooting. Gabriel feels these kinds of films are necessary in a time where topics like this are often argued but no real change ever comes.
